Jim’s litigation practice focuses on construction defects and other construction disputes, construction lien foreclosures, insurance claims, commercial collections, real estate and mortgage disputes, and general business and employment disputes. His clients include property owners, condominium associations and other homeowners associations, developers, contractors, material suppliers, and small business owners. Jim has successfully guided his clients through mediation, arbitration, and all phases of litigation, including trial.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Jim was a naval officer. While in the Navy, Jim drove surface combatant ships, managed weapon systems, supervised at-sea refueling and small boat operations, inspected engineering plants, oversaw government contracts, taught ROTC, and coached sailing.

Recent Cases
  • Obtained $240,000 settlement for plaintiff homeowners in lawsuit against general contractor for construction defects.
  • At trial, obtained judgment for roofing subcontractor in a lawsuit against general contractor and property owner for nonpayment and mechanic’s lien foreclosure. Judgment included entire principal balance, all attorney’s fees and costs, decree of foreclosure and order for sheriff’s sale of property, and complete dismissal of defendant’s counterclaim.
  • Obtained $280,000 settlement for homeowners in a lawsuit against general contractor for drainage problems and crawlspace flooding.
  • At summary judgment in a lawsuit against property developer for failure to repay $800,000 loan, obtained an award of $950,000, including interest, for individual investor.
  • Defended large manufacturer in wrongful termination lawsuit filed by former employee. Compelled former employee to dismiss all claims and pay more than $100,000 in settlement to employer manufacturer.
