Sanford (Sandy) Levy, the founding member of the firm, is licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts of Washington. Sandy has worked as a Seattle lawyer since the great recession of 1980, when Washington state experienced double digit unemployment, shutdowns of mill towns, and 16% interest rates. After surviving that period, and opening his own law office in 1983 as the economy began to revive, Sandy began to focus on the building and construction industry, representing small and large size building manufacturers and suppliers. To balance the business he took on challenging cases representing individuals and businesses with labor and employment claims, as well as home and property owners involved in contractual disputes with contractors.

Today, he works with large and small property owners whose homes or businesses have been damaged by construction defects, flood, or fire damage. He brings claims for wrongful denial of insurance coverage, breach of contract actions for homeowners and commercial building owners, condominium defect claims, and breach of employment agreements.

Sandy has been a featured speaker on a wide range of seminar topics, including the effects of mold on building and personal health, mechanic’s and materialmen’s liens, ERISA employee benefit laws, and how to avoid contractual disagreements in the construction trades. Having tried and arbitrated dozens of cases, Sandy has extensive experience evaluating the merits of claims and how to separate those with more emotional than economic value. That real world experience helps him to serve clients by providing them with guidance both on how to avoid litigation and when to say no to a potential client.

Sandy has also served as an expert witness in a variety of cases.

Over the past five years, Sandy has spent hundreds of hours in Olympia working to add new consumer protection laws for single family homebuyers. Believing that existing laws deny homebuyers any basic protections against shoddy work, Sandy has worked to balance the legitimate interests of homebuilders and their customers. Those efforts continue today. He also spent time as a Commissioner appointed by Governor Gregoire to develop recommendations on how to improve the governance of homeowner associations throughout Washington.

Despite all the years of service as an attorney, Sandy still loves coming to work where he says every day still brings surprises, new clients, and an opportunity to help people resolve their problems. And, he says, there is nothing quite like hearing a judge say, “Mr. Levy, I’m granting your motion.”
