Credit and collection responsibilities are typically assigned to a company’s Credit Department. Credit managers determine the credit worthiness of applicants and establish an appropriate figure for credit availability. Presumably, a formal credit policy exists to help guide those in the credit department through the process of establishing credit for new customers and revising credit availability for existing customers. In addition, credit managers are assigned the responsibility for maintaining an acceptable daily sales outstanding figure (D.S.O.) as well as managing accounts that have fallen in arrears.
