Many states allow those who furnish labor or materials
to file a claim with the owner against the contract funds
not yet paid to the prime contractor, or funds not yet
paid to your customer. It is a good but not great tool,
because timing is everything. Also, taxing authorities
can over trump your claim even if you file first. Still,
if it is your only claim right, do it.
